premium tax healthcare insurance markeplace, access to the form for others in the household that cannot be claimed as dependents.

how to edit the information in that form, since TurboTax asked the info one person, but I have two kids in the household I cannot claim as dependents but were in the healthcare markeplace for 2025.

If you share the policy with another taxpayer, you will want to mark YES on the screen titled Policy shared with another taxpayer.   This screen will appear after you enter the details of your 1095-A form.   You and the other person you share the policy with (whoever claims the children as dependents) can shares the premiums (column A) and advance premium tax credits (column C) in whatever way works best for your family.

You can share the amount on the policy 50/50 or you can claim all of it or the other taxpayer can claim all of it.    It doesn't matter how you allocate the amounts as long as they add up to 100% between your 2 tax returns.  Answer YES on the shared policy screen and you will be able to edit the amounts you share on the following screens.

You could share a Marketplace policy with any of the following:

  • Someone with whom you share custody of a child
  • A former spouse
  • A person who now claims your child as a dependent on their taxes
  • A person you used to live and file taxes with
  • A parent or an adult child

If someone on your 1095-A isn't your dependent or your spouse, and doesn't file taxes, you'll have to repay any discount you got to help pay for health insurance.

Dawn,

Thanks for your response.  The situation is I have a second child sharing the marketplace policy that I cannot claim as a dependent.  And TurboTax does not have an option to add that second child.  Please advise.

You don't need to indicate in TurboTax any details about the child you don't claim as a dependent, but is on the policy reported on the 1095-A.  After indicating that you 'shared' the policy, you will enter the SSN for the person who is claiming that child (even it they're not on the policy themselves).  That person also reports the 1095-A on their return. That way the IRS looks at both your returns to see that the amounts are divided between them.

You and the other person claiming the child will need to determine what % of the policy amounts you each will allocate on your individual returns.  For example, if the policy covers you and two children and you paid the premiums (if any), you could claim 67% on your return and the other parent claim 33% on theirs when they enter the 1095-A.  Or you could allocate 100% and the other person allocate 0%.

You can test this in TurboTax by changing the allocation % in this section to see how it affects your return(s) and choose the most advantageous split, as long as the total is 100% between you.
