Click on Switch Products at the bottom left of the online program screen. Click on Downgrade
This doesn't work. When I go to the screen, all of the Do it yourself options are grayed out and not clickable. It forces me to call customer service, and the person I'm speaking with does not know how to downgrade me to get the "Expert Assist" off (that I didn't want and was tricked into filing with).
@charthom8 Clear the tax return and start over.
If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Switch Products on the lower left side of the program screen while working on the 2025 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over
This option doesn't work, they need to fix the bug. They are forcing you to use expert assist. This is what happens when you clear and start over. No option to opt out. I also unchecked all the boxes in the questionnaire right before this page. So no matter what tax situation you are in, it defaults to expert assist.
Clicking on other products just shows you other products without giving you ability to select the actual one you want. Whoever implemented this new feature totally dropped the ball on making this an optional service vs a forced service. Focused too much on core. Will wait for them to fix before filing this year or switch company if they take too long. So dumb.
@geog1 This does not happen for all TurboTax online users. I have three accounts with the online editions. Free, Deluxe and Premium, none need or use Live Assist.
What happens when you click on See other TurboTax products? Or when you click on < Back?
You are a life saver! I revisited "See other TurboTax products", had to manually hover on the text "Select" to actually switch product. Previously I hover on the column, or the textbox to try and select. Have to be exactly right on the text. 😬 So tricky...
Thanks for pursuing the answer...I have had the same very frustrating experience. BAD UX that needs a developer fix.
Thank you all for this. It sucks that I had to start from scratch to see it. Rather than continue though, I went to a competing product and got filed in less time than with TT this year and for less overall cost (even in DIY). I also do not appreciate the manipulation to pay nearly $200 for something I never used because it was a trap all the way until filing discovering how much in cost there is to file. I value my time and there was also a glitch with Turbotax with W2 imports this year, kind of annoying where duplication occurred. Maybe next year is the year?
I've been a customer for 20+ years. After the way they FORCED this "Expert Assist" on me this will be my last year using this product. Congrats Intuit... you got an extra $40 from me this year but you lost a customer for life.
I will also be writing my state Attorney General office to complain about the SLEAZY way they forced this UNWANTED and product on me. I never wanted "Expert Assist", they decided that I want this.
Oh yeah... To remove something that I never used I could "delete everything" and start all over again. What a GREEDY PIECE OF TRASH company.
I highly recommend that people file a complaint with their State Attorney General's Office. The sleazy underhanded way that Intuit/TurboTax is forcing people into an option they don't want is certainly unethical and likely illegal as well.
