When to use different filing status between federal and state?

I always file MFS due to my student loan repayment (PAYE). But turbotax gave me the option of filing MFS on Federal and MFJ on State (PA).

I am wondering who would usually use the option? I always wanted to file MFJ because of the extra deductions. Any disadvantages to choosing this option?

Please see link to the filing status for PA, you should be fine to file MFJ regardless of fed filing status:

Properly completed, there is NO difference in the tax liability between filing PA state income tax separately or jointly.  PA does not provide any additional deductions for filing joint.
