Free Edition, if you meet the requirements, will allow you to file your state income tax return for $0.

In TurboTax Online, you may be able to Switch Products or Clear and Start Over.

Switch Products or Clear and Start Over may be found in the lower left hand corner of the screen if it is available to you.

 As long as you:

• have not submitted payment, 
• deducted the TurboTax fee from your refund, or 
• registered your product, 

you may erase your return and start from scratch in TurboTax Online. If you have done any of these things, you will need to manually edit your return.

Did you file your federal return but wait until later to prepare your state return or try to e-file the state return?   If you only paid for e-filing your federal return, there is a separate fee for preparing the state, which must be paid before you can file the state return.  You cannot use Free Edition to prepare the state unless you used Free Edition to prepare the federal return.

You might be able to prepare a state return for free if you go to your state's tax site to get the forms from the state.
