Did you receive the benefits on a a form other than an IRS form 1099-G?  Please clarify.

Paid family leave may be reported by following these steps:

  1. In TurboTax Online, enter 'paid family leave' in the search microscope in the upper right hand corner of the screen.  Enter.
  2. Click on 'Jump to paid family leave'.

Thanks for your response. Yes, it was on a 1099-misc. I spent an hour on the phone with a tax expert and we eventually figured it out.

When you enter the Form 1099-MISC, you need to indicate that the income was not associated with your main job, you did not have a profit motive for it and it was only received in the current year. Then it will not be treated as self-employment income.

It wasn't only received in the current year. That was the problem. Feel free to stop responding as I am done. You didn't fix the problem.
