Owner of Form 1095-A?

We have a 1095-A (Health Insurance Marketplace Statement) for our son who we claim as a dependent and does not have enough income to file his own return. He is listed on the statement as the Recipient and is the (only) Covered Individual listed. We paid the premiums for the entirety of 2025.

When I go to enter the information for this form, the first question is "This form belongs to...". The only options in the dropdown menu are myself and my wife. Neither of us utilize this insurance.

Is there any way that I can indicate that the insurance belongs to him? If I go to the Forms page, the only checkbox options are "Taxpayer", "Spouse" and "Spouse is Covered by Plan". It also says "See Tax Help if recipient is a dependent".

If I just fill in the rest of the info from the form but ignore the question about who the form belongs to, will that raise any red flags?

You either need to claim your son as a dependent or you need to file a tax return for him where he will have to pay back the subsidies that he received because he is below the federal poverty level.

You can't enter the 1095-A on your tax return because your son's social security number isn't on your tax return.

Thanks for the response. I'm a little confused though....

We do claim our son as a dependent, and because of that his SSN is in fact on our tax return. But on the 1095-A he is listed as the recipient, and in Part II he is the only person listed under Covered Individuals. We're not listed on it and we don't utilize that policy for ourselves.

So then when I enter the 1095-A information, TurboTax asks who the information is for, and the only options are myself and my wife. I'm wondering -- if it's not possible elsewhere to indicate that the information is for our son -- whether I can just leave that part unanswered and fill in everything else from the 1095-A.

It doesn't really matter who it "belongs" to (and that does not even show up on the tax return).  It belongs to both of you because you are filing a Joint tax return and are claiming your son.

As long as you enter the 1095-A, it should be good.

Thanks. I had suspected that it would just be a matter of entering the info from the form since he's a dependent and we paid for it, but I appreciate the confirmation. I did come across other people with a similar question to mine and this was the advice they were given as well.

Again, thanks to you both for responding.
