out of state Taxes

I live in Montana,  my wife has inherited a small percentage of an oil well in Texas 

So do we need to file a tax form in Texas?   the amount is only about $1000 a year

out of state Taxes

Texas does not have a state income tax, so nothing to file there.   All of your income goes on your federal return and on the return for the state you live in.
