Our daughter was in college until May 2016. She lived with us while working full-time. June-Dec. Am I right to claim her as a dependant? Can she also file for refund?

Yes, you can claim your daughter as a dependent if she is under age 24 and you provided more than 1/2 of her support. Her student status for 5 months will allow you to claim her this year.

She will also have to file a tax return. She will indicate on her return that someone else can claim her as a dependent. In Turbo Tax, this is done in the personal information section. She will not be able to take the personal exemption, but she can still use the standard deduction as an offset to her income.
