If you are in a community property state, everything gets divided 50/50.  (Community property states are:  AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA, and WI.)

In the remainder of the states, you will use his income and deductions for his column and your income and deductions for yours.  So, if you earned wages of $20,000 and he earned $25,000 then he shows $25,000 or 56% of the total wage income.  Each category of income, deduction, or dependent needs to be divided into who it belongs to and how much.
