On the 2017 vs. 2018 Deductions & Credits summary page, why does TurboTax show more Tax Withholding in 2018 than the sum of my wife's and my W-2 statements shows?

Did you make estimated tax payments?

2017 refund applied to 2018?

Any other documents have income tax withheld such a a 1099R, 1099SSA?

Thanks for answering MichaelL1.

The discrepancy between the Tax Withholding I entered into TurboTax (from 2 different W-2s and a 1099-R) and the amount TurboTax shows for 2018 is quite large ($2,416).

I did make estimated tax payments but those are shown on the next line and not included in the Tax Withholding line.

I did not apply a 2017 refund to 2018 as I actually owed and paid additional taxes in 2017 when I filed my return.

I did enter 2 different 1099-R into TurboTax. One was a pension distribution that I rolled over to an IRA and therefore no tax was withheld. The other was a 1099-R distribution for excess 401-K contributions (exceeded the IRS limits), but the tax withheld was only $36.

I have triple checked my entries for W-2s and 1099-Rs and cannot find the discrepancy. It looks as if TurboTax is making a miscalculation somewhere internally.

you are using the Step by Step and not the Forms correct?

Tell me the exact title of the line narrative you are looking at?

Yes, using the Step by Step. The title at the top of the screen says, "XXXXX & YYYY, Here are Your 2017 and 2018 Deductions & Credits". Then the incorrect number shows up under the "2018" column next to the line called "Tax Withholding" in the "Credits" section.

It is under the "Deductions & Credits" menu across the top.

Go to the Forms mode in the upper right and then click on the Tax payments in the left side, and see if this sheds any light as to why the number is different.

Ah, good idea. The discrepancy shows up as "Additional Medicare Tax withholding on Medicare wages" under Part V - Withholding Reconciliation. Apparently between my W-2 and the wife's W-2, we had too much Medicare Tax withheld. Yes, we are filing a Married Joint Return. I'm going to keep going using TurboTax's numbers and I'm thankful to you for helping me home in on the answer!
