Under wages and income put in $1 or 1099-DIV with any bank name on it. Then your file will be eligible to file. Efiling is closed now, so you can print and file or wait until eFiling opens around Jan 20 and see if it will accept the 2019 return. It did not in the past, but I believe it may this year.
No----you cannot e-file a 2019 return. That was incorrect advice.
But you can e-file a 2020 return. And you can e-file it if you enter $1 of interest. BUT----WAIT!!!!!!!
The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can receive on your 2020 tax return. If something went wrong or you did not get the stimulus check this year, you can get it when you file your 2020 return in early 2021—if you are eligible. It will end up on line 30 of your 2020 Form 1040.

We know that the IRS is already revising the 2020 Form 1040 to include the 2nd stimulus, but that change will entail a lot of re-programing at the IRS and for the tax software programs. It may be at least a month — or longer— before the forms are changed. Do NOT be in a hurry to file your 2020 tax return until more is known. Give some extra time to the IRS and the software programmers so that the software can handle the new 2nd stimulus, so that you can get it all by filing ONE time. It is never a good idea to file early, and it would be especially foolish to file an early 2020 return.
@MissMCJ - can you please document why you believe it will this year? do you have a website or something else to support that? I am interesting in updating my knowledge with the right facts
thank you,
@macgyver50 Do you get ssi or is it Social Security or SSDI? A lot of times people say ssi when they really mean Social Security Income, but it's not. ssi is something else.... supplemental security income. You do not get a SSA-1099 for ssi and don't report ssi on your tax return. If you get a SSA-1099 or SS or SSDI you do have to report it if you have other income. or married and filing with a spouse or separately.
We are waiting to see if the IRS will have a way to sign up for the second stimulus like they did for the first one. If not it will probably be added into your 2020 return we are filing this year. So be patient.
@VolvoGirl - there is no non-filer for the 2nd stimulus...if you think about it, the non-filers for the 2nd stimulus are the same group of people as in the 1st stimulus. If you failed to do non-filer for the 1st stimulus, the 2020 tax return is the only path forward.
Yes, if you meet the eligibility requirement. While you won’t receive an automatic payment now, you can still claim the equivalent Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your 2020 federal income tax return.
Supplemental security income is what I am on. I fully understand how that works. I was also involved with the IRS about automatic payments to learn some how the IRS had no clue about me so I missed out. Irs told me to file in 2021 aka today to get the 1200. I was reading up on this and saw turbo tax link stating it was ready. I figured they had a section for SSI to claim that first round which I desperately need. I fully understand I have to wait even longer and with the 2nd round process its a major mess for me.
@Macgyver501 - both the 1st and 2nd stimulus will reconcile and settle up on the 2020 tax return.

@Macgyver501 Well you can't enter your ssi at all. So to file a tax return you need to enter $1 of bank interest. You can make up a fake 1099Int. It won't be taxable.

I don't deserve to wait even longer. If I have to file 3 times I will. I needed that money 9 months ago when greed took over people's shopping habits. I don't like being rude but being told wait for 9 months is getting very old. I am owed this 1200 by law and having to fight every day to get answers or help has pushed me to be rude.
@Macgyver501 - if there is 'good news' the IRS set this up so there is an 'end to the road' and it's not interminable. No more amendments to the 2019 tax return; no more non-filer forms. No more bank accounts that are closed and checks that can't be found.
All roads lead to the 2020 tax return.
