On my filed return line 8 is $25,300.00, we filed married filing jointly, no schedule A. I thought line 8 should be $24,000.00. Can you tell me why the $25,300.00?

If either you or your spouse is over 65 or blind, you get an additional $1,300 added to your Standard Deduction.

One of you is 65 or older.  You get an extra 1,300 for each person over 65.
