Ohio has changed their tax rules with respect to Depreciation Add Back. This just happened in early March. When will Turbotax Ohio be updated to reflect the changes?

TurboTax is updated for Ohio for tax year 2025.   The legislation updated Ohio's conformity to the Internal Revenue Code, specifically aligning state law with the federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA).

Ohio now conforms to the federal restoration of 100% bonus depreciation.  The add-back for new assets was eliminated.   For depreciation added back in prior years (under the old 5/6 rule), the new law provides an election.  You may generally choose to:

  1. Continue deducting the added-back amounts over the original six-year schedule (1/5 per year).
  2. Accelerate the deduction and claim the entire remaining unused portion in the current tax year (Tax Year 2025).

Thanks for the reply.  I am not seeing that  the add back was eliminated. TurboTax desktop is still presenting the add back screen where I must  choose 5/6, 2/3, or 6/6.  When was this updated in Ohio's TurboTax for 2025?   I  think I have the latest Ohio updates installed as of March 22, 2026.

Thanks

I am in the addback screen - for prior year entries only. I entered a 2024 amount to test the program. I entered 1/5 to see what happens. I switched over to forms and see the Sch of Adj line 26 is correct with the entry and amounts. Line 27 shows the amount for this year.

You have a choice, you can continue with this method or you can choose to enter the remaining balance of previous add-backs.

What I do not see is the election for those that want to take the rest of it this year in the program. Since you are on the desktop, follow these steps:

  1. Switch over to forms mode
  2. Locate the Ohio Sch of Adjustments
  3. Line 27, enter the correct amount you want to claim this year. The program lets you type into the field, no override.
  4. Switch back to step by step and you will see the program is holding the new value.
