Is income from 1099-INT counted as earned income?

Is income from 1099-INT counted as earned income? I am trying to calculate if half of my support was from "earned income" for the AOTC. Additionally I received no support from family members and the majority of expenses were paid with student loans, why can this not be counted?

No interest is not earned income.

Portfolio income is income such as interest, dividends, royalties, and gains or losses from investments, and are specifically excluded from earned income definition.

Earned income is income from wages, salaries, tips and other taxable employee pay in addition to net earnings from self-employment. This is also referred to as active income
