My wife works full-time at a university, which includes tuition remission for her spouse. Would using that result in having to pay tax on that?

I am self-employed and would take a part-time graduate course at the university my wife works for. We file jointly.

That should be a tax free employee benefit ... ask the employer how it will be addressed for income taxes if at all.

All compensation received is reportable on your tax return. How it's reported on your tax return depends on how it's reported to you by the by the employer. Maybe it's included as income on the W-2? Or maybe it's reported as a scholarship in box 5 of the 1098-T? There are other ways it can be reported to you also. How it's reported, matters.
