My wife made $9000 for tax year 2018. She watches a baby/toddler in the home of the baby. I am trying to do our taxes. Do we need a 1099 or W2 from the employer?

If she worked in the employer's home, technically she should receive a W-2 with taxes withheld.  By IRS rules she is a household employee.
