For 2018, the maximum amount of earned income subject to Social Security tax is $128,400. So, if your W-2 income is over $128,400, self-employment tax will not be computed on your self-employment income, for Social Security tax purposes.
For 2019, the relevant figure is $132,900.
However, a smaller percentage of self-employment tax will still be assessed for Medicare tax, above that ceiling.
