Why is it rejecting? Does it say Duplicate SSN or is the AGI wrong? Or there should be a Reject Code. Did your parent's claim you as a dependent? If you qualify as their dependent you have to check the box that says Someone else can claim you. It's under My Info.
Yes you have to setup a new account for yourself. Online is only good for 1 return. If you did your return in their account it would overwrite their return. So don't do that.
Did you file a 2018 return last year? If you did not file a 2018 return then enter 0 for the AGI to efile 2019.
Thank you so much for your response! It says duplicate SSN. I had tried to file yesterday from my own account (created this year) as not their dependent and when it went to file it did not seem to go through. So when I tried again today to amend it (as their dependent) it says duplicate SSN but the first one yesterday never actually went through.
Sounds like they claimed you on their return. Did you ask them? Or did you sign up on the IRS Non-Filer page to get the Stimulus Check?
Do you qualify as their dependent?
Oh, wait.....If the first one did not go though then you do not amend to change it. You just fix it and resend it. Did you actually click on the Amend button? You might need to delete the amended return.
You should click on Add a State to get back into your return. Double check if the first one went though.

When you efile you get back 2 emails. The first email only confirms the transmission. The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile. When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc. What does it say?
I received the transmission confirmation but not an acceptance or rejection. Today I received an email to call them and verify the new account but I have not gotten a call back. Because the first one did not get accepted or rejected yet there is no option to amend it, so I think that's why this 2nd attempt from today is showing up as a duplicate.
