My Tax return was regected because I didnt know my mom claimed me

So like the title says I didnt know my mom had claimed me and I didnt check the box to say I was being claimed. Im under 25 and in my area I can still be claimed if I live with her, I just didnt know she had already claimed me.

And her returns have already come in so I dont know what to do, all the advice ive seen has been specifically if it hasn't come in yet so I just dont know what the next step to take in getting this fixed are.

Make sure that was your mom who really claimed you. Keep in mind that your mom can claim you as a dependent on her IRS tax return if you meet all the necessary requirements, such as:

  • You must be a US citizen/resident.
  • You lived with her for more than 6 months.
  • You have not provided over half of your own support.
  • You are over 19 and under 24 and a full-time student.

If it was your mom that claimed you and all requirements are met, then you could mark yourself as a dependent on your tax return and resubmit them.

In TurboTax Online there is a question in the “Your personal Info” section that says: “Another taxpayer can claim me as a dependent on their tax return.” You should mark the “YES” button, if you ‌agree with that.

If you are using TurboTax Desktop, there's a question in the Personal Info section, “Do any of These Apply to [name]? One of the options is “Another taxpayer can claim [name] on their return.” You should mark the check box for that.

If you were claimed by someone else as a dependent (not your mom), and if that person filed first, you would need to file again your return on paper and claim yourself.
