My tax refund was $889. I understand I had to pay the fees, those were only suppose to be $119. I did not get a full $769 deposited into my account today. Why is that?

If your refund is less than expected, even after taking into account the service fee to pay out of the Federal refund, then the IRS may have changed something in your return.  In that case you should receive a letter from the IRS in about 3 weeks or so explaining why.

Are you expecting both a  Federal refund and a State refund?  If so, which one was deposited?  Who was the deposit from, and how much did you receive?

Is this your situation?
If you used Deluxe, then the fees would be 39.99 for Federal return, 39.99 for a state return, and 39.99 service fee for paying out of the Federal refund (or 44.99 for California filers).   That would total 119.97 or 124.97, plus applicable sales tax (if any.)

If it was the IRS that changed anything in your return, you should get a letter from them in about 3 weeks or so explaining why.

It was only federal that was deposited and i was aware of the $119.97 fee. I only received $638.93 and my refund said $889.

Is $889 the figure actually shown on your Form 1040, Line 20a when you print/view it?

Can you check your fees this way:

It may or may not show the 39.99 service fee.

It often won't show the service fee because that is another company's fee.  Watch for my answer below.
