My tax account is forcing me into self employed or higher versions of turbotax. Why can't I check out with Basic or another lower-priced option?

If you have self employment income and are using the online product, you must use the self employed version to do your tax return. 

If you use the CD/download product installed on your computer, you can use any version because they all  have the same forms. You will get more guidance with the higher version if you need it.

It's impossible to say for sure with such limited information; however, if you have Forms 1099-NEC to report, you have self-employment income.  While you can report your self-employment income using TurboTax Online - Deluxe or Premier, in order to report self-employment expenses will require you to use the Self-Employed version.  And as Texas Roger said, you can use any  version of the CD/Download desktop version, but only Home & Business will have the related interview to guide you through setting up your company and entering your income and expenses.
