If the old account has been close, the bank will refuse the direct deposit and the IRS will mail you a check. You might try entering the new account number using the IRS online portal: https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment
The portal is for nonfilers to add account info. If I use this what will happen?
No you can't use that. Is your old account information showing on the other part of the portal where someone who already filed a return and need to change account information would enter it?
It’s showing on the Where’s my Money portal. The bank says that they have not received it. There’s an active Savings account. Just trying to figure out will it go automatically into his Savings , but he did open a new account with the same bank or if it’ll go back to the IRS
