My State income tax (NY) from box 17, Ihave the same number total of box 1 (Wages, tips,) so efile won't let me continue, is my w2 have an error?

So i have the total number in Box 1, 3, 5, 17 and 18 from my W2. Then efile won't let me continue stating "The New York state withholding can not be greater than or equal to wage." Is my W2 filed incorrectly? What should I do?

Double-check your entries. The state wages are reported in Box 16, and State income tax withheld is reported in Box 17. 

Make the correction and try to e-file again.

So my W2 states that Box 17 total number, is equal to my Box 1. Which e-file won't let me continue.

Box 17 should be the withholding amount.  If Box 17 is equal to the amount in Box 1 then your W-2 is incorrect and you will need to go back to your employer and ask them to correct your W-2.    You will not be able to e-file your return until this is corrected.   

Out of curiosity what is the amount in Box 16 of the W-2, is it the same amount as Box 17 or a different number.

I knew this looked a little weird in the beginning,  but thank you for confirming this issue.

And yes, Box 16 is a different number.
