My spouse and daughters are resident aliens(they do not have SSN) and meet the presence test. What option do I choose on the Citizenship question for them?

You would choose the option of US citizen and legal resident.

For all TurboTax users, it is assumed they are all US citizens or residents regardless of how they become one.

Thank you for that. But what about the child tax credit. I need to note that they don’t have social so that the worksheet for the calculation is filled out correctly.

Please be aware that children without SSN don't qualify for the Child Tax Credit, but may instead be eligible for the $500 Credit for Other Dependents

Please see What is the Child Tax Credit? for additional information.

Hi, thank you for your response and yes that’s what I meant. If I’m doing my takes and applying for their ITIN at the same time what do I put when it asks for a SSN? And do the quality for the $500 credit? They are qualifying children and meet the presence test.

When you apply for the ITIN for the children and your wife, you would be completing Form W-7 for each of them. When submitting the W-7’s you would attach your return to the applications.

When entering their information in the return you would leave the block for the Social Security Number Blank. The IRS will be entering the ITIN’s before they process the return.

See W-7 Instructions.

Because the children will have a ITIN and meet the other requirements, you will be able to take the $500 Credit for Other Dependent for each of your daughters.
