My son earned $1,900 during summer. Do I need to file a return for him?
If his wages were strictly W-2 income, he is not required to file, but may elect to do so to obtain a refund of his withholding(s).
Assuming he is your dependent, if your son prepares his own return with TurboTax Free Edition, he should check the box Someone else can claim me on their tax return in the personal information section.
