Your son should provide his correct Social Security Number to his employer, who should then issue him a W-2 with the correct information.

Then you should file the 2017 return if it is required, or if he would like to request a refund of withheld taxes.

Yes, if he meets the filing requirement and/or wishes to claim a refund of withholding.

totally unrelated to this question:  With the new tax law of no more than 10,000 in deductions, we are struggling to understand. We have over 10,000 in charitable donations, mortgage interest, etc. Is there anything that we can do to offset this or get credit for it, etc? My husband works full time and I work on Amazon mturk part time. Thank you.

For married filing joint, the Federal basic standard deduction is now $24,000  Take the time to put your deductions in TurboTax.  Even if they don't help for Federal, they may help on your state.

We have over 10000 alone in charitable contributions. This does not count mortgage interest, etc. So, due to the new 10000 cap, we cannot claim the extra as in previous years. I read this online: The TCJA repeals the Pease limitations, so go ahead and donate to your favorite charity no matter how much you earn. You can still claim this tax deduction in full.

Should we not itemize: if your itemized deductions are reduced to under $24,000 in 2018 by the new law, you’d actually lose money by itemizing.

We have went from getting over 5000 each year (due to deductions/credits which are now capped) to owing money by itemizing.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

There is no cap on charitable contributions - the $10,000 cap is on taxes.  If your deductions exceed $24,000 you can itemize as always.
