The recently passed tax reform legislation did increase the Child Tax Credit to $2,000 for the year 2018 and for tax returns that will be filed in early 2019. Therefore, that increase will be seen when filing next year.
For 2017 tax returns (filed in 2018), the tax credit remains at $1,000 per child.
