A 2021 extension request had to be filed on or before April 18, 2022.
You have until 4/23 to fix and refile the rejected return to be considered timely filed.
You can either remove the child and efile then paper file an amended return later to put the child back on OR just paper file the original return now with the child on it. HOWEVER even if the EX amends her return you will NEVER be able to efile your return with the child on it so paper filing the original is really your only option especially if you will owe taxes without the child on the return.
If your return is correct, print and mail it. You can attach a copy of your electronic time stamp for the e-filed return if you like. The IRS computers don't update fast enough for you to be able to e-file, even if your ex fixes their return.
