My return in 2021 shows a total overpayment, all of which is to be credited to your estimated tax liability for 2022. Where do I put this into Turbo? Thx

What it says: "Remittance: None is required. The return shows a total overpayment of $1,113, all of which is to be credited to your estimated tax liability for the coming year."

When you transfer last year's return over, TurboTax will transfer any refunds you applied from your 2020 return. You'll see this credit in your refund meter when you start your 2021 return. You don't need to enter the amount again on your return.

Form 1040 line 26 shows 2021 estimated tax payments and amount applied from 2020 return .

To preview form 1040:

  1. Select Tax Tools from the left menu then Tools. Next,
  2. Select View Tax Summary in the pop-up, then Preview my 1040 in the left menu.

Yes, you can apply a federal refund to the following year which is similar to making Estimated tax payments.

In TurboTax, click Deductions & Credits

Scroll down to "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid"

Scroll down to "Other Income Taxes"

Click Start and scroll down to "2020 refund applied to 2021 federal taxes"

That is not right here is an easier way.

1. Open (continue) your return, if you don't already have it open.

2. Search for refund applied to this year and select the Jump to link in the search results.

3. Scroll down to the 2020 Refund Applied to 2021 section.

4. Select Start next to the appropriate category (federal, state, or local) and follow the instructions.
