When you started a new 2023 tax return using the 2023 TurboTax desktop editions you would have been shown a list of 2022 tax returns that are in the TurboTax folder within your Documents directory.

Did you select one of the 2022 tax returns to transfer to the 2023 tax return?

If your 2022 information isn't transferring into your 2023 tax return, you may have more than one TurboTax account. To find the account you used last year, start here.

Enter your email address and then enter the verification code. The next screen will show you every account name connected to your email and the date you last used it.

Pick the one that seems most likely to be the one you used last year. You will have to verify it again and will be prompted to change your password.

You can repeat this as many times as needed to find the account you used last year.

Are you using the Desktop installed program or the Online version for 2023?  How did you do 2022?

If you used the Desktop program,  you need the data file ending in .tax2022 to transfer.  It should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax folder.  Or search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax or .tax2022.

Here's an idea. Do you still have 2022 installed? Try opening 2022 program and see if you can get your 2022 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN. And see if that is the right one.

Then in the 2022 program do a File-Save AS and give it a easy name you can find or search for. And note where it saves it or select where to save it so you can find it again. The file will end in .tax2022. Then close the 2022 program. Then start a new 2023 return and transfer from the 2022 file.

If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like "~your name.tax2022". That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.
