To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

A 2017 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed.

Print, sign, date and mail the state tax return to the state.  Include with the mailed return any forms W-2 and 1099 which have taxes withheld.  Go to your state department of revenue website for the address for mailing the state tax return.

There are no penalties for filing a tax return after the due date if filing for a tax refund or there are no taxes owed.

A "reject" only applies to e-filed taxes.    Since 2017 e-file ended two years ago, it can only be mail filed now so the e-file reject is moot.

Simply print the 2017 tax return and mail it in to the IRS - NOTE, because of the COVID-19 IRS mail backup, it might take 4-6 months for the IRS to process a 2017 mailed tax return.   Be sure to send certified with tracking in be sure that they receive it.

I am not sure what your 2017 tax return would have to do with your job or employer since a tax return in none of an employers business.  The most you could do is make a copy of your signed tax return and show it to your employer - it will be months before the IRS processes it.

TurboTax online and e-file for 2019 ended on Oct 15, 2020. 2019 (and earlier tax years) can now only be completed using the CD/download software installed on a Mac or Windows computer. The return must be printed, signed and mailed.

"How do I finish a prior-year return that I started in TurboTax Online?

If you started your 2017, 2018 or 2019 return in TurboTax Online but weren't able to file it before the shutdown, you can finish and paper-file it in the TurboTax download software for PC or Mac.

Start by purchasing and downloading the software and install it on your computer. If you're also filing a state, be sure to download and install the corresponding state program (PC instructions | Mac instructions).

1. Now sign in at TurboTax.com using the same login you used to prepare your prior-year return.
If you don't remember it, try account recovery. Still no luck? Then just start over in the TurboTax software you downloaded and skip the rest of these instructions.

2. Under Your tax returns & documents, select Download .tax file (not the PDF) for the prior year you want and save it to your computer.

3. Back in the CD/download software, select Find a Tax File, and then browse to the tax data file you downloaded in the previous step.

4. Select the file and click Open.

5 . You can now finish up in the software. Your return will need to be paper-filed, as e-filing prior years is no longer available."

Some federal jobs require timely filing to keep the position  ... even an ERO/EA must be up to date with tax filings to keep their filing options valid.     Not sure if your local IRS office will accept a return for filing but you can check ... if you bring 2 signed copies then one will be stamped accepted for your records which you can show the employer.
