I'm very sorry for your loss.

I'm confused about the dates in your question.  Did he die in October 2015 or 2016, and are you asking about your taxes for tax year 2015 (which were originally due April 17, 2016) or are you asking about tax year 2016 (due April 18, 2017)?

sorry I am so mixed up he died Oct 2016 so it would be my 2016 taxes. ty

For 2016 you can still file a joint return as in previous years.  List all the income and deductions for both of you as always.  There is a check box in the personal information section for "this taxpayer died this year."  The IRS is very aggressive about blocking the SSNs of deceased taxpayers to cut down on fraud, so you may be blocked from e-filing. If that happens, just print your tax returns and mail them to the IRS and your state.
