My husband is a foreigner and we do not plan on getting him a SSN. We just got married last year. How should I proceed in my tax filing?

You can file a married filing separately tax return for 2018.

Filing Separately.  Where asked to enter the spouse's Social Security number in TurboTax enter a "dummy" SSN such as  999-88-9999 (this is just so you can finish your tax return in TurboTax).  You can only print and mail your tax return, it cannot be e-filed.  When you print the tax return "white out" the dummy Social Security number for your spouse and manually enter "NRA" for non-resident alien in the space for his SSN.

If you are a US citizen or green card holder you will need to file a US tax return every year declaring your worldwide income.  You also may have FBAR filing requirements and Form 8938 filing requirements.

You need to get him an ITIN.

I don't think he'll need one. He's never worked in the US, nor does he plan to. I'm planning on moving to Australia (where he's from), so it'll only be me on the US taxes.
