My husband died in September of 2015. Turbotax is recommending I start a new return. Will I lose all the information that is supposed to carry forward?

What information is there that you would expect should be carried forward. ?

Condolences on the loss of your husband.

Yes, if you start a new return, previous tax information will not carry over.

You may try changing the information under Personal Info instead.

  1. Delete your info as Spouse
  2. Replace the "taxpayer" info with your name, address, and SSN.
  3. Change your filing status to "widowed" or "single."

In general, this will preserve prior year entries and carry-over info. Realize, however, that anything entered for "taxpayer" in a prior year will now be assigned to you. This is rarely an issue.
