My husband died in 2021. Can a refund deposit be made electronically to our joint checking account if the refund is in his name?

Yes, if his name is on the bank account the refund can be direct deposited into the account.

Since you should be filing a joint 2021 return the 2021 refund that has both your names on it  certainly  can be DD to a joint checking account.

Thank you. His name is on the account, but I've not been able to deposit physical checks in his name into the account.

Many other types of checks in his name probably belong to his Estate, and you should establish an Estate bank account.
