My husband died and I need to change my status to single?

My husband died in 2019 and I filed as widowed last year but this year I need to file singly, how do I do that?

If you are providing care in your home for a qualifying child dependent, you can use the status "qualifying widow" for the first two years after your spouse's death (2020 and 2021).  Otherwise, your filing status is "single."  (Turbotax includes "divorced" and may include "widowed" but there is no tax difference so just choose single.  Click the personal review tab to review and confirm your mailing address, phone number and so on, and marital status will come up on one of those pages.

Assuming that you don’t have qualifying child dependent living with you, you just report that you are filing single in the program.
