You do not have to file if your income is below the filing threshold, however, you if you want to claim the EITC and get a refund, you would need to file a return.
Are you saying it was rejected due to the EIC or something else?
New rules. You may now qualify for EIC even if you have no children or dependents. It depends on your income.
Open the EIC form...Turbotax should calculate any EIC for you.
@dougmat FYI - It's not new, you could always qualify for EIC without a child.
You don't need to have a child or dependent if you are age 25 but under age 65 (at least one spouse must meet the age rule). But back in 2020 & 2021 there were special rules. You could qualify for EIC without a qualifying child if you were at least 19 (no max).
