My Fed and state TurboTax 2018 tax filings were rejected. I'm out of town and cannot access my tax returns before the new 4/20 deadline. How can I make changes remotely?

AGI or pin did not match 2017 return. Both were auto selected by turbo tax which had access to and was using previous filing data automatically. In 2017 I filed an extension.

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on a personal computer and do not have the computer available, then there is nothing that you can do.

If the IRS is rejecting the tax return for the 2017 AGI, then change the AGI to a 0 (zero).  If the IRS rejects the return with the 0, then you will have to print and mail the tax return.

If you used the online editions then just sign back onto your account, change the AGI and re-file.

There is no penalty if you are getting a refund. , You can still efile after April 20.

Will the email I received from turbotax (Pre-April 15) showing I filed prior to the April 15 deadline be accepted by the IRS as a post mark for on time filing or do I get to endure some punitive IRS fines for late filing? I owed money under the new tax regulations and had attached payment which also got rejected.

If you mail the tax return on or before April 20, then attach a copy of the email showing the rejection.  Make sure you keep copies of everything mailed to the IRS.
If you cannot mail the return on or before April 20, then it does not matter that it was rejected.  You will have to pay the penalties and any interest on the taxes owed.  However, it should be minimal if you mail and pay the taxes ASAP.

Thanks much DoninGA, I appreciate the info. It's what I expected, not what I wanted to hear but good nonetheless. I'm done worrying about it for a week... I guess in the vein of my true patriotic duty I get to pay the pirate Uncle Sam that much more for not supporting the line of people reliably waiting in front of the post office just before midnight on 4/15 to keep thier money just a little longer without personal threat. This was the 1st time I have attempted an electronic TurboTax submittal and TurboTax failed me, Very Unfortunate. Can i get a TT state filing refund? I should have mailed vs paying more $s to TT to get it done "Conveniently" from the comfort of my home then go out of town with no worries. Disappointed, such an easy fix, and the TT software check and tools should have caught it.

REGARDS, The Taffy just stretched some more.

Unfortunately the accuracy of the IRS database for prior year AGI has a lot to be desired.  What you entered for the 2017 AGI came right from your 2017 tax return.  No excuses, just what we see every year from the IRS.  There is always a small percentage of taxpayers whose electronic signature based on the prior year AGI gets rejected.

You can get a refund of the $24.99 e-filing fee for the state tax return that was rejected.  You will need to contact TurboTax support for the refund.
To contact TurboTax customer service/support use their contact website during business hours.  If the problem concerns any type of refund for fees, use the key words billing issues and do Not use the word Refund or you will get a phone number for tax refunds.
