My ex mother in law lives in and baby sits my child. I pay a her monthly, but does not exceed the 2000.00 a year.

My ex mother in law lives in and babysits, I pay her monthly, but it does not exceed 2000.00 a year. I do not claim her as dependent, but I do claim my son. I was wondering if I can write that off or is there any benefit claiming this expense in my taxes?

Yes you can deduct your child care for your son.

But you will need your care giver's social security number and she will need to report this income.

Yes, this could benefit you on your tax return. How much it will benefit you will depend on many factors within your return.

You can add the child care and see how much this will change your tax return.
