My daughter has been home this past year and I am supporting her. She is 25 and in grad school. Are there any tax breaks for me as a single parent

You may be able to claim her as a dependent if her gross income in 2024 was less than $5,050.  If you can claim her as a dependent then you are eligible for the Other Dependent Credit of $500 on your tax return.

To be a Qualifying Relative -

1. The person cannot be your qualifying child or the qualifying child of any other taxpayer. A child is not the qualifying child of any other taxpayer if the child's parent (or any other person for whom the child is defined as a qualifying child) is not required to file an income tax return or files an income tax return only to get a refund on income tax withheld.
2. The person either (a) must be related to you or (b) must live with you all year as a member of your household.
3. The person's gross income for the year must be less than $5,050 (social security does not count) in 2024
4. You must provide more than half of the person's total support for the year.
5. The person must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S., Canada, or Mexico resident for some part of the year.
6. The person must not file a joint return with their spouse with the following exception -
You can claim a person as a dependent who files a joint return if that person and that person’s spouse file the joint return only to claim a refund of income tax withheld or estimated tax paid.

If she had more than $5050 of income -- not counting Social Security--- she cannot be claimed as a dependent by anyone else.   What income did she have?

She maybe made $2000.00 this year working at a clinic during school breaks.

Even if she is 25 I can claim her?

You can claim her for the $500 credit for other dependents and for Head of Household filing status if her income was below $5050.

Yes.  There is no age limit on who can be claimed as a dependent as long as they meet all the requirements under the rules as posted.

Yes,  If that's her only income for 2024 and she meets all other requirements listed above. Even if she is 25.

Yo might also be able to claim the Lifetime Learning Credit Education credit.

To claim the LLC, you must meet all three of the following:

  1. You, your dependent or a third party pay qualified education expenses for higher education.
  2. You, your dependent or a third party pay the education expenses for an eligible student enrolled at an eligible educational institution.
  3. The eligible student is yourself, your spouse or a dependent you listed on your tax return.
