There is no Box 12 --"State" on a W-2.   Box 12 on a W-2 ahs nothing to do with identifying a state.

There is a box 12 13 state on some types of 1099-R forms...specifically a CSA- or CSF-1099-R forms.

But those are NOT W-2 forms and go into the software in an entirely different area.

So what form do you have in-hand...a W-2? or a CSA- or CSF-1099-R ?

If you are talking about Box 12 on your W-2, Box 12 shows any elective deferrals you had from your income for example contributions to your employer's 401k plan.

If Box 12 is blank, do not enter anything for that field in TurboTax.
