My amended return keeps being rejected. The message says my filling status on 1040-x must match the filing status on 1040. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix this?

If your 1040 is filed as single, your 1040X must be filed as single.  If MFS, MFJ, or HOH the status much be same on 1040X.  Your filing status is whatever you were on 12/31/2021.  If that has changed, your 1040X must still be same as 12/31/202l.

No, your status must be unchanged if you want to e-File it.

If you really want to change status, you have to print and mail the amendment.
