My AGI from my 2016 forms do not match what the irs has...they rejected my 2017 filing...what do I need to do?

It’s the amount on line 37(1040 form) I don’t understand why it doesn’t match

If you amended your return it is still the amount from your original return.  If you were married last year you enter the totals.

To e-file your 2017 taxes, the IRS requires your 2016 AGI for identity verification (unless you didn't file 2016 taxes; in that case enter 0 as your AGI).

As long as you transfer last year's taxes over to your 2017 tax return, TT should transfer your prior year AGI.

If your 2016 AGI didn't transfer – for example, you created a new login for 2017, your 2016 tax return is on your old computer, etc. – read on.

Where to find your 2016 AGI

The best place to get this number is from your originally-filed 2016 federal tax return.

Even if you amended it later, you must use the AGI from the 2016 return you originally filed, even if it's way off.  Choose the 1040 variant you filed last year (below) to see which line shows your  2016 AGI.

Don't have a copy of last year's return? You can order a transcript from the IRS. Go to their Get Transcript site, choose Get Transcript Online, and follow the directions (if you don't already have an account, you'll need to set one up).

One thing's for sure – you won't find your 2016 AGI on last year's W-2 or 1099 form. More info

Form 1040 – Line 37

Form 1040A – Line 21

Form 1040EZ – Line 4

Form 1040NR – Line 36

Form 1040X – Line 1, Column A

I hope this was helpful.

that is often because users change things after filing or use their accounts for more than 1 persons filing and corrupt the data.
