My 8b is less than the amount shown of Box 8 of 1099-Int worksheet. Why is that possible?

1) Any entries in box 13 reduce the amount on line 8b of the form 1040

2) any accrued interest that was part of the purchase price on a recently purchased bond, will also reduce line 8b on the form 1040
