I cannot explain why your dividend income did not transfer to your Pennsylvania state return. If it was transferred, then you would have the opportunity to edit the information in the state return, but you cannot add it there.
Here are a couple of things to try. Go back to the dividends section of your Federal return and try deleting that entry and re-entering it. Then go to your state return and step through it again from the beginning. When something changes on the Federal side, the data should update on the state side as well.
If that does not work, you can try deleting the state return and starting it again from scratch. That should also initiate a re-transfer of the data that was entered on your Federal return.
It may be that the dividends you reported are not taxable by the state. It could also be that you entered something incorrectly when you entered the 1099-DIV. TurboTax transfers data from your federal return to your state return. Before you begin troubleshooting your state return, go back through your federal return and make sure everything is correct.
After you review your federal return, select the State Taxes tab and review the state section. Pay close attention to the information, especially if you have made changes to your federal return. There might be new sections that need to be completed.
Troubleshooting common federal to state transfer issues
As you go through your entries for the 1099-DIV review your entries, specially for your answers to the questions below:
Note: The reason for these selections is to show the amount that is exempt for your state. TurboTax will carry this information to your state return. There is exempt interest dividends in your account for other states which will be considered taxable by your state.
But it kind-of depends on what you mean too.
For most states, the state starts with the Federal income amount, and since most Interest, dividends, and capital gains are already a part of the Federal gross income, there is nothing separate to enter in the sate form.
....except, as noted by @LeticiaF1 , certain special designated amounts that will be either added, or subtracted from the state income forms before calculating the state tax.
For instance, for states with an income tax:
1) sub amounts of dividends (or interest) that came from US bonds is included in Federal gross income, but those amounts are subtracted form state income....as the states don't tax dividend/interest from US Bonds.
2) Sub amounts of tax-exempt interest from various states Muni bonds, those $$ have already been subtracted from the Federal Gross income, but the $$ that came from state bonds issued by states other than your own, are taxed by your state, and those $$ get added back as an addition to your state's income.
Then there are subtle differences to those additions and subtractions, primarily related to tax-exempt $$ in #2, if you live in UT, CA, MN or IL
Hello LeticiaF1. Thank you for responding. My 1099-DIV amount was entered in my Federal return. It just did not transfer over to my PA State return. I've used TurboTax for years and my 1099-DIV amount has normally shown in my PA State taxes as income. Since the 1099-DIV amount has not transferred from Federal to State, where can I add this amount in the State portion? Past years have been no problem - this time it just does not show up in my State return. I need to include this amount to properly file my PA State taxes. Please advise. Thank you!

@AnnetteB6 - Thank you!! I did have to completely delete my State return. I double checked that the 1099-DIV was showing in my Federal return and then I restarted the state section. Voila!! The 1099-DIV had successfully transferred along with my other information. Thank you for providing the answer to my dilemma!! I was able to complete my taxes 😀
