Multiple W2s for one employer, various states

A friend's son works for an employer based in NY State.  He is w W2 employee, not a 109 employee.  This employee travels to other states for this company, for a week or so at a time each month, but does not live in another state.  The company pays his travel/housing, etc when he is out of town.  This year, for the first time, this guy got 8 W2s from the employer.  Each W2 shows all the same Federal income and tax, but these 8 W2s each have a different state, same gross income, but different tax per state.  Very confused.  If he inputs all the W2s his income comes out 8 times what it really was.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Only one W-2 form should be entered for the employer and then lines 15 to 17 will be entered for each of the 8 states.  On the W-2 entry screen, enter the W-2 information for the first state on lines 15 to 17, then elect the Add Another Row button underneath box 15 and then enter the second state W-2 information in the next line of boxes 15 to 17 and so on for each of the 8 states.  See the sample screenshot attached.
