Migrating from last year's TurboTax Desktop to TurboTax Web.

For the past many years, I used TurboTax Desktop on Windows 10 but that's no longer an option. I'm here on the TurboTax website to try and log in and make sure it has my info pre-filled in from previous years, but there's a problem.

As soon as I log in, I'm immediately taken to a questionnaire (pictured below). Maybe they require users to fill that out first, but to me, the first step should be importing my data from last year- right? and then answer any questions it may have afterwards.

I figured I'd ask here first before proceeding - where/when do I load my files from last year's TurboTax Desktop, so that TurboTax Web will have my information?

not sure about that screen maybe you just have to answer some basic things to start a new return then do a transfer.  this page may be helpful.  note you need a .tax2024 file without password.

are you using the offer that was intended for Win 10 people to transfer a desktop license to online Premium Fed+State (1 return) for no extra cost?

note Online does not have Forms mode and only allows 1 return per account.  it's very chatty and interview-centric and will try to upsell stuff to you as you enter your 2025 info, be careful what you click on...

To transfer your TurboTax desktop file (.tax2024) to the TurboTax Online program, sign in to the online version and select "Tax Tools" > "Tools" > "Transfer last year's return from your computer." 

This works only at the start of a new return and requires the desktop file to be on your computer (not a PDF).

This does not work for Expert Assist Business.  There is not an option to import a tax return file.
