I'm having the same issue.  TurboTax was connected to the Intenret when I first installed and activated it.  Today I alllowed it to install an update and now I get the "not connected to the Internet" message even though I have explicitly allowed TurboTax through the Windows Defender Firewall.   How do we resolve this issue???

I just found the answer in another thread - you must run TurboTax "As an administrator".  Right click the TurboTax icon on your desktop or start menu and choose "Run as an administrator".  Enter your WIndows Administrator password or PIN and TurboTax should start (it did for me).

Same issue, multiple computers and multiple networks tried. Can't activate this garbage

I am having this same problem with TT Deluxe for Desktop on Windows 10.  I have deleted cookies, restarted my modem and router, turned off virus protection and firewall, and run as administrator.  Everything I could find on the internet and these boards to try, separately and together, I've tried.  Still can't get into it.  I should have just spent the extra money and used the internet version.

Any answers?  Is there not a tech support number to call?

Same for me on Deluxe Federal and State 2024.  Ran as administrator, ran normally.  No can do.  Same message - not connected to internet.  Internet works great for all browsers.  Intuit, please fix this.

Same problem here too. Tried disabling the firewall; running as administrator; and all the other suggestions made. Removing and reinstalling the software changes nothing. Really frustrating. I'm on the internet right now. I'm having no problem accessing the internet with prior versions of Turbotax Home and Biz.

I have been trying to install a download (no cd this year!) of Turbotax 2024 for three hours.  It keeps telling me I am not connected to the internet, but obviously that isn't true.  It also references the Windows Defender, but there are no blocked apps.  I want the cd install back--that took five minutes.

Having the same issue, tried all suggestions above and no luck

My suspicion is their activation servers are down. May be we try tomorrow to see if they are backup. I think the issue is on Intuit end.

I downloaded TT deluxe 2024 from Amazon and went through the installation process. When the installation process got to the activation page, it hung for a few seconds and displayed the Unable to connect to Internet. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, run as administrator, and disabled my Windows firewall. Nothing helps. Error is still the same.

I spoke with someone from tech support that said the problem was on Turbotax end. About an hour after the call, the activation process started working properly and my installation completed properly.

Great to hear!   I’ll try it tomorrow.  Today got me all burnt out on TT.

I somehow got it to work after having this issue, but I'm not entirely sure how I got it. It may have just been me trying multiple times and it finally went through as perhaps it was some server issue on Turbotax's side. But here are the steps I tried that will hopefully help everyone recreate this.

-Uninstall it.
-Right-click the installer and run it as administrator. Then install as usual.
(The above two I think are the main things I did differently than everyone else here.)
-Add an exception to the .exe file in Windows Defender in the "virus & threat protection" and "firewall & network" protection settings. (or equivalent antivirus) It should be located at "C:\Program Files\TurboTax\Individual 2024\64bit\TurboTax.exe" by default or something that looks very similar. You can find the path by right-clicking the desktop shortcut icon, clicking "properties", then the "shortcut tab" and finally checking the "target" box to see for sure.
-Instead of double clicking the desktop shortcut icon to run it, right-click it and run this as administrator too.

From there it worked and I was able to reach the product key entering step.

But what a pain this was. It seems like every year there's some new issue to contend with and they don't tend to fix bugs from prior years too. So they just keep stacking up.

I had this error initially and tried to download the patch which is still not properly connecting...Does anyone know if this is an intuit issue?

There was a known issue on 1-10-2025 that has now been resolved.  Try again and see if you are okay.

I'm having the same issue, and still not resolved.  I've downloaded multiple times, made sure my product key is in my intuit account, made sure my mac user account is admin ... nothing has worked.  As soon as it tries to pull up the activation page, it gives me the not connected to internet error.  All my previous versions of TurboTax work fine and download updates, so it seems to be something specific to this version and/or the activation process.

Has anyone figured this out?  I have spent hours trying different things and still get the cannot connect to internet message.  Very frustrating.

Try adding a new account to your machine. I would not link it to any MS account (local only) and leave only the apps that come up when it's created. If TT shows up on the desktop when the new account is created click on it and follow the prompts, if not install it in the new account. There is no logical reason this should work, but in some cases it has on both MAC and Windows OS. You will have to use the new account for your taxes, but you'll have a year to find new software.
