During 2022, I used my HSA to pay medical costs from earlier years (nothing incurred in 2022). For my medical costs incurred in 2022, I want to itemize those and deduct them. However, TurboTax automatically subtracts my total HSA distribution amount from the amount of my 2022 medical costs that I want to deduct, which is wrong because I didn't use my HSA to pay any of those 2022 medical costs. How do I prevent TurboTax from automatically doing this?

Thank you
When entering medical expenses you must enter any qualified medical expenses for which you received an HSA distribution in 2022 even if those medical expenses were incurred in an earlier year. This is a complication that TurboTax creates by automatically subtracting from the amount of medical expenses reported on Schedule A any amount paid from an HSA in the same year.
Note that with respect to an HSA, qualified medical expenses are only those incurred after the establishment of the HSA.
Thanks for your answer.
