Me and my fiancé have to file a 1095 A cause of the children she had with marketplace health insurance but I’m only claiming one. Can we use the same form?

I have to file a 1095 A but so does my fiancé. I’m only claiming one kid that’s on the form and her the other 3. Can we use the same form to file? I don’t understand what I need to do personally to get mine filed cause she’s the one who had his information not me.

30/70 is acceptable and you and your fiance' will each enter the form in your tax return.  On your tax return, you will report the 30% numbers, your fiance' will report the 70% numbers.

You will allocate between you and your former spouse the total enrollment premiums, the applicable SLCSP premium, and APTC for coverage under the plan during the months you claimed the dependent child.

So:

  • if the Monthly enrollment premium was $1,000,
  • the applicable SLCSP premium was $900, and
  • the APTC was $600

30/70 of the monthly enrollment premium would be $300 + $700 = $1,000, and

30/70 of the applicable SLCSP premium would be $270 + $630 = $900, and

30/70 of the APTC would be $180 + $420 = $600.

Yes, you will both need to enter the form since the form covers members of both tax families.   You and your fiancé will need to use the shared policy allocation rules on your tax returns.   There will be a box to check to tell TurboTax you have a shared policy.   You can share the policy by any percentage you both agree upon    50/50,    0/100,    100/0,    30/70,   etc.

Where do I enter my 1095-A?

Here are some examples of policy allocations from the Form 8962 instructions.

So if for example I’m only claiming 1 we would do 30/70? Me being the 30%?
